About Beyond the Airport

Beyond the Airport is an independent website covering transport, hotels and local restaurants. We have no affiliation to any airport or hotel group.

Our team has decades of experience working at Heathrow. We have helped passengers and advised corporate clients on accommodation requirements. Our hotel inspectors inspect hotels professionally for airlines. We have in-depth knowledge about the airport, its hotels and the surrounding area.

What we cover

All 31 Heathrow Airport hotels are listed and independently reviewed on this site. Use our hotel finder to filter by terminal, budget and facilities. Browse the interactive Heathrow hotels map to see where every hotel sits in relation to the terminals.

Heathrow has 36 hotels but The DoubleTree, ibis budget T5, Holiday Inn M4/J4, Novotel M4/J4 and Crowne Plaza M4/J4 are all closed for the time being.

Beyond hotels, we publish practical guides on finding your way around the airport, local restaurants, hand baggage rules, airport lounges and local transport. Our aim is to give passengers a clear picture of their options before they arrive and make everything a little bit easier.

How we assess hotels

All 31 hotels on this site have been personally inspected. Some are also subject to a full 100 point audit, carried out by working hotel inspectors who assess four and five star properties for airlines and corporate clients around the world.

Where a hotel has had the full audit it is marked on its page.

The full audit covers 100 points across eight categories including guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, fire safety, security, leisure facilities, dining and health and safety. It is carried out by a qualified professional using the same standards applied to airline crew accommodation audits.

Who we are

Our team includes Heathrow based pilots, hotel inspectors and hospitality experts.

Louise writes many of our articles and reports as well as presenting our video guides on the Heathrow Travel Tips YouTube channel. With a background as a highly experienced lawyer, now working in regulation, she brings a precise, practical approach to travel advice, covering the airport from a traveller’s perspective.

Editorial independence

We have no affiliation with any airport, airline or hotel group. Our reviews and recommendations are editorially independent. Where we earn commission through booking links, it has no bearing on how a hotel is assessed or where it appears in our content. Hotels cannot pay to be featured, recommended or ranked.
